Is Life Giving You Lemons?

Then it's time to grab a pot and make some potpourri. Here is a simple homemade potpourri recipe that will have your home smelling dreamy.

One thing is for certain when coming out of Winter and even most of Spring, your home has been building up all sorts of unpleasant odors. It's time to open windows and let fresh air in.

No Added Chemicals

"Ah that smells so good"

If you are a migraine sufferer, then you likely are fully aware of triggers such as candles, perfumes, air fresheners, cleaning products, and the like. All of which can put you in a very bad state for a few days or more. I am one of those people. So, I am always on the lookout for natural solutions and products that won't bring on misery.

I was delighted to learn that I could make my own potpourri with natural ingredients and it wouldn't send me to bed for a few days. It was so easy. When I say easy, I mean easy. With only 4 ingredients, it doesn't get easier.

In the way of equipment; all you need is a pot, knife, and a stove. I have an old cooking pot that I use specifically for this sort of thing. It isn't one that I use for cooking. Since we are using natural ingredients, any pot will do.

Ingredients:

  • Imitation Vanilla

  • Lemons

  • Water

  • Fresh Rosemary - If you grow your own, GREAT. If not, you can often find some on sale.

Step By Step

  1. Slice about 3 lemons either in halves and place them in the pot. Give them a gentle squeeze but leave most of the juice intact.

  2. Add water, cover the lemons, and just a little over halfway to the top.

  3. Add a tablespoon of vanilla and stir it around a little.

  4. Toss in 3-4 sprigs of rosemary.

  5. Place the pot on the stove on low heat, I set mine to 3.

  6. Monitor the pot occasionally and add water as needed.

Trust Me

Your place will be smelling dreamy in no time. I love this! It is perfect for Spring and Summer. I also love that it is an adaptable recipe. For instance; in the Fall and Winter months, you can change it up with other ingredients. Such as oranges, cinnamon, cranberries, and cloves. So easy, and it migraine friendly. It's a win-win.

I hope you give it a try. Thanks for reading and have a blessed day!
